SmartWinch Programming

RMGSwitch BEC Method
E models revision 1

Before starting these procedures.

  • The boat must be wired as per RMGSwitch BEC instructions.
  • Boat and transmitter (Tx) is on and winch is responding normally to Tx stick control.
  • Battery must be fully charged for Setup 2.
  • When instructed to "press the button", the button must he held down for less than 1 second.
  • When instructed to "press and hold the button", the button must he held down for the specified time.
  • When instructed "turn the boat off", press and hold the button for more than 2 seconds and less than 3 seconds. The LED will go off at 2 seconds and turn on again at 3 seconds.

arrow.jpg Setup Procedure 1     Tx End Point Limits and Travel

  1. Remove drum if first time for Setup 1 or after reset done in Setup 2.

  2. Place Tx stick at full in position and adjust trim all the way in the same direction as the stick.

  3. Press and hold the button then release immediately the LED turns off for the 3rd time.

About 3 seconds after button released there will be a ring tone like sound signal.

  4. Move Tx stick to full out and wait for another 1 second long sound signal.

The 2nd sound signal indicates that the Tx end points have been read and saved.

  5. Move Tx Stick back to full in and wait for a third ring tone.

If not already there, the winch will then drive to its zero point immediately after the 3rd ring tone.

  6. Fit drum and manually adjust the lines to set the main boom at full in. Ensure Tx stick remains at close hauled for this step.

  7. Using the Tx stick, drive the winch out until the booms are at the desired full out position.

The winch will run at a lower speed at this time. Take care not to go too far out as travel is set to maximum at this time.

  8. With the winch still at the new full out position, press the button.

The SmartWinch will automatically restart with the new settings.

This completes Setup 1. The winch is now operational with the new settings.

Note: Setup 1 must have been run previously but does not need to be done each time Setup 2 is run

  1. Place Tx stick at full out to turn Battery Monitoring on OR
Place Tx stick at full in to turn Battery Monitoring off.

  2. Press and hold the RMGSwitch button. Release the button immediately the LED turns off for the 3rd time.

About 3 seconds after the button is released there will be a ring tone like sound signal.

  3. Any time after the ring tone, press the button.

1, 2, 3 or 4 beeps will sound indicating battery monitoring level set. See table 2 below
The winch will then restart itself with the new settings.

This completes Setup 2. The winch is now operational with the new battery testing setting.

Note: Setup 1 must have been run previously but does not need to be done each time Setup 3 is run.

  1. Place Tx stick at desired position.

For SLT & ISDB, drive the SmartWinch (via Tx stick) to full in for minimum, full out for maximum or any intermediate position as desired.
For LBS, place boom at desired shutdown position. The range available is half to maximum turns. A position of less than half will result in half turns position. For Reset to default, stick position is not important.

  2. Press and hold the RMGSwitch button. Release the button immediately the LED turns off for the 4th time.

About 3 seconds after the button is released there will be one beep per second up to 10 beeps.

  3. Press the button immediately the required number of beeps has sounded. See table 1 below.

If you accidentally pressed the button at the wrong number of beeps then just turn the boat off now and the previous setting will not change.

  4. If desired number of beeps heard, press the button one more time to confirm the new settings and restart the winch.

Following this button press, the winch will restart itself  ( the startup signal will sound).

This completes Setup 3. The winch is now operational with the new settings.

Setup 3 Beeps Count Table 1

10.1 Setup 1 Tx End Points and Travel Adjustment
1 Tx stick at full in position and trim to minimum.
Leave trim in this position throughout procedure.
2 Push Setup Lead onto Rx ground pin and wait for a beep.
About two seconds after connection there will be a one second long
beep indicating that the Tx full in end point has been sampled.
3 Move Tx stick to full out position and wait for another beep.
The second beep indicates both Tx end points have been saved.
If travel adjustment is not required then remove the Setup Lead now
and the SmartWinch will automatically restart with the new limits.
Or to adjust travel continue on to step 4.
4 Move Tx stick back to full in.
SmartWinch will drive to its zero point then sound another beep.
5 If not already attached, fit drum and or sheets and set booms to
full in.
6 Move Tx stick out till booms are at full out position.
Take care driving winch now as SmartWinch is set to full travel.
SmartWinch will run at low speed at this time.
7 With booms at full out, remove Setup Lead from Rx.
The SmartWinch will then automatically restart with the new settings.
