RMGSwitch-BEC Method
A, B, C & D models all revisions
End points, travel and battery monitoring.

Before starting

  • The boat must be wired as per RMGSwitch-BEC instructions.
  • Boat and transmitter (Tx) is on and winch is responding normally to Tx stick control.
  • Winch battery pack fully charged (if battery testing to be enabled)
  • When instructed to "press the button", the button must he held down for less than 1 second.
  • When instructed to "press and hold the button", the button must he held down for the specified time.
  • When instructed "turn the boat off", press and hold the button for more than 2 seconds and less than 3 seconds. The LED will go off at 2 seconds and turn on again at 3 seconds.

Procedure

  1. Place Tx stick at close hauled position with trim at minimum then press and hold the button then release immediately the LED turns off for the second time.

The SmartWinch will be automatically restarted by the RMGSwitch. You will hear the normal startup signal followed by the setup mode entry countdown of either 5 or 10 seconds depending on model.

  2. Press the button as soon as the 3 quick beeps signal is heard at the end of the 5 or 10 second countdown. The LED will turn on.

Up to a few seconds after the button is pressed, the winch will sound a long beep to indicate entry to setup mode and the sails full in Tx position has been sampled.

  3. After the first long beep, press the button. The LED will turn off.

  4. Move Tx stick (not trim) to opposite end for sails fully out then press the button. The LED will turn on.

After this button press, another long beep will sound indicating that the sails full out Tx position has been sampled.

  5. Press the button. The LED will turn off.

After step 5 is performed another 3 quick beep signal will sound to indicate that the Tx end points are now saved. . If you don’t need to go into travel or battery monitoring sections of setup, then simply turn the boat off now. If the only purpose for doing setup this time was to change Tx then travel setting is not necessary. Otherwise continue on to the next step.

  6. If continuing on to travel adjustment section of setup, detach the sheet lines or remove the drum if first time doing setup with this winch in this boat.

This step is only needed for first time setup. Any subsequent end point setting and travel adjustment in the same boat may be done with drum fitted and sheets attached. When the button is next pressed, the winch will drive itself to the travel starting point (close hauled). The winch must be free to drive to this position. If not sure then remove the drum or disconnect the sheets.

  7. Move Tx stick back to close hauled then press the button. The LED will turn on.

After the button is pressed the winch will drive itself to the travel starting point then sound 2 quick beeps. You can then drive the winch in the normal manner using the Tx. If not done already, install the drum and setup the sheets so that the main boom is at close hauled when Tx stick is at close hauled. Take care when running the winch with sheets attached as it is set for maximum travel at this time and it would be easy to overrun if you move the stick too far.

  8. Using the Tx, drive the winch out till the main boom is at the desired fully sheeted out position. With the boom in position for sails full out, pause for at least one second without moving the winch, then press the button. The LED will turn off.

After the button is pressed this time, another three beep signal will sound indicating that the new travel setting is stored. If you do not wish to make any changes to your battery monitoring setting, turn the boat off. Or if you wish to change the existing battery monitoring setting then perform either step 9a or 9b.

  9. a) To select the battery monitoring option and have the winch determine the battery pack size then press the button once only. After a short time 3 quick beeps will sound.
    b) To turn off battery monitoring press the button twice within 1 second. Three rising tones will sound indicating battery monitoring is off.

  10. Turn the boat off.

Setup is now complete. Happy sailing.

Note: This procedure can be performed as often as you like. There are no special requirements for deleting old settings before performing the procedure. Old settings are automatically replaced when new settings are made.
